Prince Harry's spell on manoeuvres and a Ross Kemp television documentary set in Afghanistan boosted Army numbers, says one of Scotland's top recruiters.
Major Gary Spence MBE, who signs up new soldiers at the Scots Guards' Edinburgh HQ, says the prince and former soap star Kemp have had a positive impact.
Major Spence, 54, said: "Recruitment is slow right now because Iraq is an unpopular conflict.
"But we have seen a rise since Prince Harry's tour of duty and the Ross Kemp documentary."
Harry, 23, an officer in the Household Cavalry, was deployed in secret to Afghanistan in December after he insisted he wanted to share the risks his fellow soldiers face.
Brother Prince William, who is set to undergo training as a Navy officer, is also likely to serve aboard a warship in a war zone.
Although recruitment problems facing all three armed services have eased over the last few months, they are still under strength.
An MoD spokesman said: "Anything showing the forces in a positive light will likely have a positive effect on our numbers."
