Now you can shop for a job at St James
A TRAINING academy to fill thousands of job vacancies in the Capital was to be launched in the St James Shopping Centre today.
The academy will be open to people of all ages looking to find work, providing them with the practical skills needed to get jobs in retail, hospitality and catering.
Backers have also pledged to find people places on training courses at local colleges or work-placement schemes. The aim is to help fill the estimated 3000 vacancies that will be created in the city centre over the next five years.
The proposed redevelopment of the shopping centre – expected to double the amount of retail in the area – is likely to spark a massive demand for workers.
The academy will be run by Employment Enterprise, a Scottish recruitment and training organisation with a track record of getting people back into work.
Rochelle Weir, general manager of the St James Shopping Centre, said: "With plans for the redevelopment of the St James Quarter now well under way, it is important that we provide any assistance we can to help fill vacancies and get people back into work."
The academy is born of a deal between the St James Shopping Centre, Telford College, the city council, Scottish Enterprise, Job Centre Plus, Careers Scotland and Capital City
